Minor, an optical expert in Chicago, USA, proposed a trick: add a convex crescent lens in front of the Triplet to form four elements and four groups (4G/4E, or 1-1-1-1). Minor was patented in 1916 and the Gundlach company produced Ultrastigmat f/1.9 lenses for cinema cameras at focal lengths of 40mm, 50mm and 75mm
